Can I connect a regular USB cable to a broadband modem with my Wii?

Some Comcast modems have a USB port on it, and I have just wondered if it is possible, a hardliner from the modem port on the Wii only run with a standard USB cable instead of buying one of these USB to Ethernet LAN adapter. Any help is asked. Thank you.
